About

Healthcare needs a lot of help getting into the 21st Century. I believe, at its heart, that health is a social process – but within its core is leadership.

Payment Reform, Participatory Medicine and Comparative Effectiveness Research are examples of the kinds of issues health care leaders need to understand.

Furthermore, emerging technologies like social and digital media are giving patients, doctors and nurses new ways of communicating and collaborating. From hospitals to pharmaceutical companies, organizations need to understand the nature of emerging technologies, how people are using them and how to best integrate them into their daily practices.

Health Is Social is committed to researching, designing and implementing the best practices for social and digital media in today’s world.

From customized training sessions to workshops to speaking engagements, I help healthcare and life sciences leaders to understand the nature of emerging media and how to best implement focused solutions to today’s enterprise problems.

    Dear “Nerdy Nurse”

I recently stumbled upon your blogs and thought to touch base about deploying iPads in healthcare. As an MIT-trained engineer turned MD, I share a passion for technology in healthcare.
My newest toy is the iPad. The reason I didn’t get an iPad for the longest time was because it was inconvenient to carry (see NYTimes article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/16/fashion/16ipad.html).
I found the solution (a professional/functional iPad case for MDs at http://www.protabstuff.com) and now want to share it with as many physicians / front line clinicians as possible. The goal is to improve patient communication (doodles and pics on the iPad) and clinical decision-making (UpToDate on you at all times).
Let me know your thoughts on the subject. I’d be happy to send you a case to use and review.

    Thanks,

    Ben
